The Grade 2 Listed historic Guildhall in Chard, Somerset, has recently completed the installation of a 10kWp solar PV array (40 panels) to its rear, East/West facing roof.
Following a successful planning and listed building application process, permission was granted for the installation to proceed on the zinc formed, hand-cut roof behind the beautiful façade.
As part of its energy reduction strategy, the Town Council explored the benefits of solar PV and Voltage Optimisation to significantly reduce its electricity spend and improve its green credentials.
The solar PV array installed is predicted to generate over 8,000 kWh per annum, providing electricity for use within the building. Together with the government FiT subsidies currently available, it is expected the system could save up to 22% of the annual electricity spend for the building, a great opportunity to reduce the energy bill and the carbon footprint for the Town Council.
